Engineered wood is made by bonding together wood strands, particles and veneers of wood using adhesives. This composite nature is what makes engineered wood so much more resistant to warping and shrinking. One type of engineered wood, which provides better insulation than normal wood, is Laminated Veneer Lumber or LVL. LVL is made by gluing together multiple layers of thin wood. It is a fairly new technology and only a few manufacturers use this in their custom wine cellar doors.
Normally, solid wood is used for the core of the door because it is easier to customize like hand carved wine cellar doors, hence, making them more attractive. Unfortunately, solid wood tends to warp and shrink over a long time. Using stiles and rails as reinforcements would only diminish your customization options. A choice that could be considered for a door core is Engineered Wood. Unlike solid wood doors that require wide diameter trees, you only need quick growing, small diameter trees to manufacture engineered wood.
